Pictures of the Navajo's

I thought this was a fairly goot picture of Little Olive (black lamb) Yeti the 6 horned ewe and the rear end of Phylis. The wool is good for rugs and horse blankets but not for clothing as it is course and thick and I can only imagine very scratchy in deed. Not marketable outside the home spinning people.
Tut (as in King Tut) is out breeding ram. I like his blue color yet it really does not show here. He is quiet and gentle and seems to be the guy we hope will produce a few very nice lambs for sale and for the freezer.
We have 7 ewe's to entertain him this year. We will collect the ewe lambs, sell the rams and move to a younger flock in a couple of years by adding a new ram from time to time.
I would still like to register the entire flock. But we will see.

Navajo Churro Sheep

Something that we added to our place this year are the Navajo Chrro sheep.. Not for sure what we will do with them but we do have a couple of orders for ewe lambs at a fair price. they should be a fun thing to have and since we are able to care for them and propigate them we will take a few more steps and see where the path leads us.

Face Book Addition

I have started a face book page. I hope I did it right and linked the two together. This will be interesting and a very new learning thing for myself and hoepfully Glenn will get involved with me as well.

Obviously the possiblities are endless.

Mark you calendars; kidding season here starts April 21st. We should be lambing then too.

Rainy October

All we can do is keep food available during the rain so these girls stay warm and dry.

We are working on the building yet, the east side is anchored and filled with hay so now we will start the re building of the west side for the loafing area.
Pictures will be coming soon.

Change the blog name

I have decided to change the name of my blog to the name of our property "Absent Jack Acres". I think I will feel more willing to share more information about out little acreage and all the joy that the animals bring to our daily lives.

Thank You for following along from time to time and I hope that in the future this is something I will enjoy doing every week or so.

Respectfully

Shannon

2009 is nearly over

We were blessed to find wonderful homes for all of our kids in 2009.
Thank You to all of you that came to our place to visit and those that gave terrific homes to our little pygmy kids.

This year was not without tragidies as three of the kids fell ill to unknown causes and passed away, they were truly loved and will be missed after their short time on this earth. Sometimes we can do all the right things in the world and still have everything go wrong.

Back by popular demand will be Finnigan, our lead buck from last year. We have leased him back for the season to cover 8 or9 selected does and we will also be using Gunner for 5 of our does since he is family to most of the girls we have he will be around for only one season and he will be up for sale.

Be well, take care and I look forward to sharing kidding season 2010 with you.

Sally gave us Click & Clack 4/30

Sally is such a good mother, her labor was long and some what challenging but she made it with a little help Thursday 4/30 around 7:30 pm.

Click B18 (seemingly broken ear) was born first but his leg was knuckled back and we had to make a few adjustments that Sally was not happy about to safely deliver this little guy. After that Clack B19 seeminly fell into the world with very little effort. Once they were under her nose, nothing else mattered and she took it from there with out a grudge. Theses two are marked just like Sally's first boy Striker B4 from 2007 by Bilbo.

We didn't weigh these two either, too late for that now. I guess it's not that important but nice to know what our average weight would be by buck.

I sure hope that Clicks ear comes back up but I have a feeling that it was broken. Only time will tell.
This is a great shot of Glenn with these two boys, as you can see they are not tiny and should finish out beautifully.

Sally's little guy from last year is moving to Marysville, KS. in June. Along with Goldies little red dunn from this year. They will have a great home there.
